The menus a game opens during a match, such as choosing the mode in Open Valley or its pause menu, are navigated the same way with the gamepad: the D-pad to move and A to select.
In a match#
These apply in the launcher, in the portal and when playing inside the editor. What jump and the action do is decided by each game.
| Keyboard and mouse | Touch screen | Gamepad | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Move | W A S D or the arrow keys | On-screen left stick | Left stick |
| Camera | Drag with the mouse; the wheel zooms in and out | Drag the screen | Right stick |
| Jump | Space | On-screen button | Bottom button |
| Action | E | On-screen button | Left button |
A game can declare two more buttons, the pointer ones. Open-world games use them to break and place blocks: see Open world.
| Keyboard and mouse | Touch screen | Gamepad | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary action | Left click, or J | Hold a finger still on the game | Right trigger |
| Secondary action | Right click, or K | Short tap on the game | Left trigger |
| Choose on the hotbar | The mouse wheel, or 1 to 9 | Tap a slot | D-pad, left and right |
The camera and the way of moving change with the kind of game: in a side view, for example, you walk with A and D and jump with Space or W. See Kinds of game.

| Esc | Pause and menu | Launcher and portal |
| M | Mutes or unmutes the sound | Launcher and portal |

| Player 1 | Player 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Move | W A S D | The arrow keys |
| Jump | Space | Right Shift |
| Action | E | Enter |

With gamepads, each person uses their own: the launcher takes up to four, one per person. The third and fourth players need a gamepad. See Local multiplayer.
The exact table for each game, with the names of its actions, is on its start screen and in the pause menu: Controls.
