Changelog

The published versions of the launcher and the editor, which engine each piece ships, what changed with editor 0.5.0, with the 0.4.0, 0.3.0 and 0.2.0 ones, and what changed in the format and the API.

DescribesFormat 1, API 1.2 For everyone

On this page

Every change to the game format, the script API or the command-line tool is recorded here with its date. Changes are additive: a game that already works keeps working. A change that broke existing games would require a format 2, and the player would keep opening format 1 packages.

What each piece ships#

The format and the API carry the number 1 everywhere. Everything you use or download today ships the same engine, with the full contract, version 1.2; the earlier apps shipped less.

Editor 0.5.0#

2026-10-14. Same engine base as 0.4.0 (contract 1.2). The desktop interface changes:

  • Menu bar. File, Edit, View and the rest like a desktop app: hover switches menus, arrow keys, Alt and F10, Esc, diagonal tolerance on submenus and context menus with the Menu key, Shift+F10 or a long press.
  • Dark theme. GitHub-style black with green accent on lines, focus, selection and tabs; code, blocks and the workshop follow it.
  • Floating windows. Panels and documents can detach by dragging the tab or from their menu, move, resize and dock again with guides and a preview; layout is saved per project and as a global preference.
  • Not on the portal yet: editor 0.5.0 macOS zips (Apple Silicon and Intel 0.4.0 builds remain available).

Launcher 0.4.0 and editor 0.4.0#

Both ship the full contract, version 1.2: 3D models, image textures and recorded sounds. The editor adds the asset workshop and the importer.

Launcher 0.4.0#

  • Models, textures and sounds. It opens and plays games that bring animated 3D models, textures on pieces and recorded sounds. It is the same base as 0.3.0 with the new engine.
  • End screen. The label above your mark says Score or Time, depending on how the game is measured; before, it repeated the name of the table, which shows below.
  • Not yet: online matches, the online catalog and automatic updates. In Spanish, the history still says "1 Partidas terminadas", in plural, with a single finished match.

Editor 0.4.0#

  • Asset workshop. A pixel editor for sprites, tile sheets and textures, with seven ready-texture recipes; a cube model editor by parts; an animation editor; a tile map editor, and a browser with where each thing is used and how much it weighs. All with the editor's undo, saving, theme and language. See Asset workshop and the guide Your first model.
  • Importer. Models, textures, sounds, packages and scenes from other tools, with author and license required, a report per file, cancel and undo in one go. File › Import… (Ctrl+I), buttons in Content and in Place pieces, or by dropping files on the window. See Import assets.
  • Models in the scene. Place pieces › Project models, the Model category in Details with the clip shown while playing, Player look, textures in the material of any piece and recorded sounds in the rules. The Game card shows the package limits and the credits; deleting something in use warns first. See Models in the scene.
  • Blocks. Four new blocks: animate me with, stop my animation, when my animation ends and play recorded sound, and a pencil on show the sprite. Earlier blocks projects generate the same code as before. See Blocks.
  • Maps and sprites are edited. Details no longer says "editor: coming soon" on tile maps: each one has Edit, and there is New map. A sprite in Content opens its drawing.
  • What was fixed from 0.3.0.
    • In an open world, the Editing camera and the Game view start above the terrain, where the player appears.
    • In first person, the Game view follows the player's eyes and does not draw the spawn point marker.
    • The Playing strip says the state in the interface language, and "game over" only once the end screen is visible.
    • With the interface in English, new blocks projects are born with their objects and messages in English, and the Sky field names the skies.
    • The Blank, with blocks project is born without warnings.
    • The "Add its rule" notice shows when you place a coin in a code game that only names the moneda sound.
    • The assistant's overlapping-pieces check counts the path of pieces that go back and forth.
    • Singular forms with 1, and Problems texts in the interface language.
    • New script is disabled, with its reason, in a blocks project.
    • The system dialogs (open folder, export) are titled in the interface language.
    • On macOS, Alt+number and Ctrl+Alt+number work with a real keyboard.
  • Assistant. It no longer breaks projects with models: it keeps the models, textures, sounds and credits without being able to write them. If asked for a model, a texture, a drawing or a sound, it says it does not generate them and where the workshop and the importer are.
  • Not yet: textures on the cube terrain, the assistant inside the workshop, clips animated in the scene view, model thumbnails, the importer's report in English, credits on screen, the terrain editor, online multiplayer and online publishing. See What is missing.

In the format and the API: version 1.2#

  • Models: the modelo shape, with modelo and animacion, and the modelos/ folder with one .glb per model. mundo.modelo, mundo.modelos, mundo.crearModelo, and on a piece modelo, clips, reproducir, pararAnimacion and alTerminarClip.
  • Textures: the texturas/ folder, textura and repetir in a piece's material, and the flat image with textura.
  • Recorded sounds: the sonidos/ folder and sonido.muestra.
  • Characters with a model: avatar in the scene, and apariencia on an actor and on a player.
  • Credits: creditos.json.
  • Validator: codes GB700 to GB742.
  • Command-line tool: greengames importar.

Everything is additive: a game that does not use them does not change. See Models, textures and sounds.

Launcher 0.3.0 and editor 0.3.0#

They are the first ones named Green Games and Green Games Studio. Both ship the full contract, version 1.1: the cube terrain, the pointer and the hotbar.

Launcher 0.3.0#

  • Open world. It opens games with cube terrain, and Open Valley comes in its catalog, which goes up to seven games. The changes you make to the world are saved with the game's progress.
  • Per-user Windows installer. It does not ask for administrator rights: it installs into your user's programs folder and leaves the shortcuts on your desktop and in your Start menu. Uninstalling does not delete your games or your progress. See Download and install.
  • A game's menus, with the gamepad. The menus a game opens, such as picking a mode or the pause, are navigated with the D-pad and chosen with A.
  • Importing. It opens .ggx files and also the earlier .gbx ones. The dialog to pick the file comes up in the interface language. See Import a .ggx.
  • Game card. The history says "Games finished" and counts the ones that reached the end; time played also adds the ones left halfway.
  • Your data from 0.2.0. The first time it opens, it adopts the previous version's data folder: settings, installed games, history and progress. This was tested on Linux and on Windows.
  • Not yet: online matches, the online catalog and automatic updates.

Editor 0.3.0#

  • Blocks mode. A game can be programmed by snapping blocks together, with the code they write in view. You pick it in "New game", it comes with five templates and it can be switched to code. See Blocks mode.
  • Open world. It is the seventh kind of game in "New game", with its example with code and with a blocks example. The terrain shows, plays and exports; its biome table is still changed by hand, in the scene file. See Kinds of game.
  • Rules in a game made with code. Turning Rules on in an example with code no longer leaves the game failing validation: the editor keeps the score tables the script uses and adds its own at the end. When you place a piece the code does not name, a notice offers to add its rule. The warning that no rule ends the match no longer shows when the code ends it.
  • AI layer on macOS. The macOS zips now ship the AI layer, like the Windows installer and the Linux package.
  • Assistant. A change is labeled "verified" only if the game validates, the bot finishes it and the new pieces do not overlap; otherwise the label says what was missing. In a blocks project the assistant is off. See AI assistant.
  • Texts. The bot's failures and steps come in words and in the interface language, and accents and plurals were fixed.
  • Your projects from 0.2.0. The first time it opens, it adopts the previous version's projects folder, and those projects open and validate. This was tested on Linux.
  • Not yet: what Blocks mode left out, the tile map, sprite and terrain editors, online multiplayer and online publishing. See What is missing.

2026-10-13, name change#

The platform no longer has a name of its own. The place where you play, the portal and the launcher, is called Green Games, and the editor is called Green Games Studio. The portal is at https://play.green.games/en. The format stays at 1 and no game changes its behavior. The apps carry these names from version 0.3.0; the 0.2.0 ones were released under the previous name.

  • .gbx files, the earlier extension: the launcher imports them and keeps opening the games already installed. See The .ggx format.
  • Scripts of earlier packages, which name the global object by its previous name: the room provides both.
  • The data and project folders of earlier versions: the first time they open, the launcher and the editor move them to the new name, without losing anything. If they cannot rename them, they keep using the earlier ones.
  • Progress saved in the browser: it moves to the new name the first time it is read.

Unchanged: the validator codes (GB…), the launcher codes (GL…) and the "gbx": 1 marker every package starts with.

2026-10-13, cube terrain#

The contract moves to 1.1 without breaking anything: a scene can carry a terrain, a world of cubes the engine generates from a seed and a biome table, where blocks are broken and placed.

  • Format: terreno in the scene (blocks, biomes, generator, seed, sea level, distance and limit). In the manifest, controles.acciones accepts primaria and secundaria.
  • API: mundo.terreno; on the player, ranura, puntero, apuntaBloque(), vuelo and enAgua; jugadores.alCambiarRanura; interfaz.barraRapida and interfaz.marcarBloque. See mundo.
  • Validator: GB240 to GB248. See Validator.
  • Bot script: the ranura step, the jugador.cercaDe condition, and pulsar and mantener accept the two new actions.
  • Command line: greengames crear <slug> --tipo mundo-abierto.
  • New game on the portal: Open Valley. From version 0.3.0 it also comes in the launcher.

How to use it: Open world.

Launcher 0.2.0 and editor 0.2.0#

Both apps came to ship the eleven services: everything this changelog records with the date 2026-10-13, except the cube terrain, which arrived with the 0.3.0 ones. Both added a macOS version: one zip for Apple Silicon and another for Intel, unsigned, like the other downloads.

Launcher 0.2.0#

  • The current engine. It runs games with actors, camera, labels, views (third person, first person, side-on 2D, from above, isometric, and zones that change the view), sprites and tile maps.
  • Several people on the same computer. If the game declares it, the start screen lets you choose from 1 to 4 people, with a split or a shared screen. The launcher hands the game the connected gamepads, up to four, one per person; without enough gamepads, two people share the keyboard.
  • A macOS version, for macOS 12 or later.
  • Online: not yet. The card of a game that declares online matches says so ("Not available yet"), and no button leads to a room.

See Play and Download and install.

Editor 0.2.0#

  • The current engine, with the full API in the code tab.
  • A new interface, with two modes: Simple, the one for the first time, and Full, with panels that dock, three layouts (Scene, Code, Test) and a dark or a light theme. See Modes.
  • Game types. When you create a project you pick the type: third person, first person, isometric, top-down view, 2D platformer or hybrid. Zones that change the view are set up in the scene. See Game types.
  • Local multiplayer. From 2 to 4 people on the same computer, from "New game" or from the game card, with "Test multiplayer" on a split screen. See Local multiplayer.
  • Sprites and tile maps. The editor reads them, draws them and packages them. It does not have their visual editors yet: you change them by hand, in their files.
  • An assistant with AI models on your computer. The Windows installer and the Linux package include an AI layer that uses local models, with a program you install separately. Without it or without a model, the basic assistant works; the macOS zip and the standalone Windows .exe do not include the layer. See Assistant.
  • A test bot that goes around obstacles. The editor works out from the rules where to go and the engine decides how to get there. See The test bot.
  • A macOS version.
  • Not yet: online multiplayer (it is shown disabled) and online publishing. See What is missing.

2026-10-13, local multiplayer#

Additive: a game without multijugador in the manifest does not change.

  • Format. multijugador in the manifest: local (2 to 4 people on the same computer, with a dividida or compartida screen) and enLinea. The validator checks it with GB122. See Manifest.
  • Game player. A "Players on this computer" selector on the start screen when the game declares multijugador.local. Split screen (one camera, one HUD and one device per person) or shared screen.
  • Changed. jugadores.alEntrar now also fires for whoever joins after the match has started, and jugadores.alSalir really fires.
  • Command line. probar --jugadores N, capturar --locales N and, in the preview, the locales parameter.
  • Template multijugador: a coin race for 1 to 8 players.

enLinea can be declared, but no published app opens rooms over the internet: see Roadmap.

2026-10-13, views, sprites and tile maps#

Additive: existing games are still third person, and a game without laminas/ or mapas behaves the same as before.

Views#

  • Format. vista in the scene and in zones (with transicion). Types: tercera-persona, primera-persona, isometrica, cenital, lateral and plano. See Views.
  • API. camara.vista; on the player, vista, mirada, apunta() and caminarA().
  • Bot script. The mirar step.
  • Command line. greengames crear <slug> --tipo <tipo>.

Sprites and tile maps#

  • Format. The laminas/<id>.json folder; the lamina piece shape, with lamina, animacion, espejo and mirarCamara; mapas in the scene; avatar in the scene and lamina in a character's appearance. See Sprites and Tile maps.
  • API. mundo.mapa(id) and mundo.mapas(), with leer, poner, celdaEn, centro, buscar and colision; on pieces, lamina, animacion and espejo.
  • Maps. Collision built from merged blocks that are not pieces; one-way platforms, dangers and ladders; tile changes while the match is running. The bot climbs up and down ladders.
  • Validator. Codes GB220 to GB224 (pieces with a sprite), GB230 to GB236 (maps) and GB600 to GB606 (sprites), in Spanish and in English. See The validator.
  • Templates. plataformas-2d and cenital use tile maps and sprites.

Hybrid games#

  • The hibrido template: third person, one zone with a side view on a tile map and one isometric zone.
  • Fixed. The transition between two views of the same projection no longer leaves the camera looking at the sky halfway through.

2026-10-13, second engine round#

Everything is additive: the six games in the catalog validate and run unchanged. Whatever modifies earlier behavior is marked Changed.

New API#

Reference: API.

Format#

  • Pieces: grupo, rebote, friccion, densidad, opacidad, emision.
  • Zones: datos.
  • Lights: dificultades.
  • Package: guiones, to carry more than one bot script.

See Scenes.

Bot script#

  • New steps: esperarHasta, mantener, repetir, si, esperarFin.
  • In the ir step: ruta (goes around obstacles), hasta and siTeletransportan.
  • Conditions on pieces, signals, the player, the scene, the menus and time.
  • The esperadoPorDificultad, semillas and aprobarCon fields.
  • Additional scripts in pruebas/bot-<nombre>.json.

See Test bot.

Command line#

  • probar with --guion, --semillas, --ganar and --registro.
  • New capturar command.
  • validar --idioma en: the validator's messages exist in English.
  • previsualizar --anfitrion.

See Command-line tool.

Behavior changes#

  • Changed. Matches give the same result in Node and in any browser. Inside a game, the transcendental functions of Math (sine, cosine, powers and the like) are the engine's own reproducible versions. Numeric results change in the last digits compared with before and, in very sensitive games, the outcome of a given seed may change. See Determinism.
  • Changed. A fixed piece that the script moves no longer leaves the avatar walking on it stuck in place.
  • Changed. When the demo bot plays, no scores or progress are written.
  • Changed. juego.terminar with a table and a defeat result does not record the mark or announce a record.
  • Changed (visual). The "Demo" banner moved to the top right; the scoreboard goes below the top right indicators; the indicators wrap onto new lines; with touch controls, what sits at the bottom center is no longer pushed up.

Bugs fixed#

  • Presses shorter than one frame are no longer lost, with keyboard, touch screen or gamepad.
  • teletransportar sets the "on the ground" state correctly in the same frame.
  • The pieza.alTocar events go away with the piece when it is removed.
  • Validator: a schema error no longer drags along a cascade of false errors; script problems give the line in the source file; the palette names of a scene accept capital letters in the middle.
  • previsualizar: it exits with an error if the requested port is taken, by default uses a port of its own for each game and does not reload the page in the middle of an automatic match.
  • The bot no longer goes back to checkpoints of the previous scene after a scene change.
  • Touch controls are visible from the start on devices without a mouse.

2026-10-12, initial version#

  • Format 1 and API 1, with nine services: juego, mundo, jugadores, interfaz, sonido, progreso, puntajes, azar and reloj.
  • A command-line tool to create, validate, test, package and preview games.
  • Libraries for tooling: build a package from a map of files without the command line, and check and test a game from a Node program.

This is the engine that launcher 0.1.0 and editor 0.1.0 shipped.
