Settings

Every launcher setting (language, full screen, volume, name) and what is inside the data folder.

DescribesLauncher 0.4.0 For everyone

On this page

Settings is the second entry in the side menu. Changes apply to the launcher and to every game.

Settings, upper part

Language#

OptionWhat it does
Same as the systemUses your computer's language. It is the initial option.
EspañolLauncher and games in Spanish.
EnglishLauncher and games in English.

Games carry their text in both languages and follow this setting.

Display#

Play in full screen: when a game opens, the window fills the screen. It starts unchecked. F11 toggles full screen at any time, whether the box is checked or not.

Volume#

A slider from 0 to 100 %. It starts at 70 %. Inside a match, M mutes and unmutes the sound without changing this value.

Your name on the tables#

The name your marks are saved under. Up to 24 characters. It is stored on this computer only.

Data folder#

Installed games, your progress and your history are stored here. Settings shows the path and two buttons:

  • Change…: pick another folder.
  • Open folder: opens it in your system's file manager.

If you picked another folder, a third button appears, Use the default folder, which goes back to the initial one.

SystemInitial folder
Linux~/.config/greengames
Windows%AppData%\greengames
macOS~/Library/Application Support/greengames

What is inside:

The launcher's data folder
config.json your settings
biblioteca/
  <game id>/
    juego.ggx the installed game
ficha.json game card data: version, source and file fingerprint
    portada.<ext> the cover
guardado.json progress and records the game saved (up to 384 KB of progress)
historial.json the history the launcher keeps
  • There is one folder per game, named after the game's id.
  • The launcher checks the sha256 fingerprint of juego.ggx every time it opens it: a game modified by hand does not run.
  • In a game installed with an earlier version of the launcher (0.2.0 or 0.1.0), the package is still named juego.gbx until the game is updated or reinstalled. It is read just the same.
  • guardado.json survives updating and uninstalling the game. It holds up to 384 KB of progress per game: 64 KB for the game and 320 KB of changes to the cube terrain. See History and progress.
  • On Windows, the folder also holds the data of the WebView2 component, in webview/.

To back everything up or take it to another computer, copy the whole folder with the launcher closed.

Settings, lower part

Online catalog#

It says "Not set up". The launcher works offline with the games it ships with and with the .ggx files you import.

The launcher is prepared to read a signed online catalog, but that is turned off in 0.4.0. Settings puts it this way: "This version has no key to verify an online catalog, so it cannot use one."

Green Games updates#

Automatic updates are turned off in this version. A new version is published on the downloads page, and you install it the same way as the first one: Download and install. You keep your games and your progress.

That is how you go from launcher 0.2.0 to 0.3.0: the new version adopts the earlier data folder the first time it opens. On Windows, a 0.2.0 installed with its installer is not removed automatically: Download and install.

About#

It shows the version (0.4.0) and the system it runs on. It also says what matters about your data: the launcher installs and runs the games on your computer, offline too, and it collects and sends no data. There is no telemetry and there are no accounts.
